SPATIUM NIHONBASHI EAST

SPATIUM NIHONBASHI EAST is located in central Tokyo. Set only a short walk from the Sumida river and within close reach of numerous tourist areas and attractions, the location is highly appealing for tourist. The boutique hotel is located on small narrow plot and can be categorized as a Pencil Building, a typology emblematic of the dense urban structure of central Tokyo. In this case the plot measures a mere 5m wide by 12m deep, whilst the buildings 9 floors reach a height of 31m.

The facades are inspired by Japanese pagodas; creating a pattern of repetitive roofs stacked one above the other. The louvres that form these roofs offer privacy from passing traffic and connect the facade to the interior through their continuation in the ceiling.

The Design aims to deliver an authentic experience to tourists and immerse them in a space inspired by Japanese Ryokan. The design combines both esthetic and functional elements associated with this traditional architecture. The 3 different room-types are lined with quintessentially Japanese materials; wood, mortar, tatami mats and shoji. By these means guests may find a tranquil resting space in their visit of Tokyo that connects modern Japan with its esthetic roots.
